My Holy Grail Korean Skincare Routine for Glass Skin
Share
I've been obsessed with Korean skincare since my first trip to Seoul in 2019. Walking through the streets of Myeongdong, surrounded by skincare shops on every corner, I knew my routine was about to change forever. Four years later, I've finally narrowed it down to the products that actually work for my combination skin.
Why Korean Skincare?
Korean beauty (K-beauty) focuses on prevention and hydration rather than harsh treatments. Instead of stripping your skin and then trying to fix it, the philosophy is about building layers of lightweight hydration. The result? That coveted "glass skin" glow that looks like you just stepped out of a K-drama.
My Daily AM Routine (5 Minutes)
- Gentle Cleanser — I use a low-pH gel cleanser that doesn't leave my skin feeling tight. The key is finding one that actually cleans without disrupting your moisture barrier.
- Hydrating Toner — I pat this on with my hands (no cotton pads — they waste product). Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica.
- Lightweight Serum — A vitamin C serum in the morning for brightening and antioxidant protection.
- Moisturizer — A gel-cream hybrid that's hydrating but not heavy. Perfect under makeup or on its own.
- SPF 50+ — Non-negotiable. Korean sunscreens are leagues ahead — no white cast, no greasy feeling, and they actually feel nice on your skin.
My PM Routine (10 Minutes)
The evening is where the magic happens. Double cleansing is the single best thing I ever added to my routine:
- Oil Cleanser — Melts away sunscreen and makeup without tugging. I massage this on dry skin for about 60 seconds.
- Water Cleanser — Follow up with the same gentle cleanser from the morning.
- Exfoliating Toner (2-3x per week) — A mild AHA/BHA toner to keep pores clear. I skip this on sensitive days.
- Hydrating Toner — Same as the morning. Sometimes I do 2-3 layers (the "7 skin method" but I'm too lazy for all 7).
- Treatment Serum — Retinol on some nights, niacinamide on others. I alternate depending on what my skin needs.
- Eye Cream — A small dab of a peptide eye cream. I started this in my late 20s and I'm glad I did.
- Night Cream or Sleeping Mask — A richer cream to seal everything in overnight.
The Products That Changed My Skin
I'm not going to list 50 products — just the ones I genuinely repurchase. The truth is, expensive doesn't mean better in K-beauty. Some of my favorites are under $15.
Tips for Beginners
- Start with the basics: cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. Add products one at a time.
- Patch test everything. I learned this the hard way with a centella serum that broke me out.
- Your skin changes with seasons. I use lighter products in summer and layer more in winter.
- Sheet masks are great for a boost but they're not a substitute for a consistent daily routine.
The most important thing? Consistency beats complexity. A simple 3-step routine you do every day will outperform a 10-step routine you only do when you remember. Start small and build from there.
